2019 NFL Awards

I started this segment last year and figured I might as well continue it this year.

2019 NFL Awards:

MVP: Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

Lamar Jackson is going to be the popular pick, but RW absolutely carried a mediocre roster to the playoffs and meant more to his team than Lamar Jackson.

Runner-Up: Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

OPOY: Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints

Michael Thomas solidified himself as truly unguardable as he amassed 1,725 yards and 9 touchdowns on a record breaking 149 catches.

Runner-Up: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

DPOY: Stephon Gilmore, CB, New England Patriots

Gilmore was lockdown all season long for what looked to be the league’s best defense for majority of the season. He also had 6 interceptions and 2 touchdowns.

Runner-Up: T.J. Watt, OLB, Pittsburgh Steelers

  • 2018: Aaron Donald, DT, Los Angeles Rams

OROY: Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals

Murray had a very good season for a poor roster and first year head coach, including 3,722 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.

Runner-Up: Josh Jacobs, RB, Oakland Raiders

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants

DROY: Nick Bosa, DE, San Francisco 49ers

Bosa completely changed the 49ers defense as he recorded 9 sacks and 1 interception. He was a big part to the NFL’s best defense.

Runner-Up: Josh Allen, DE, Jacksonville Jaguars

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Derwin James, S, Los Angeles Chargers

QB of the Year: Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson completely upped his game as he led the Ravens to a 14-2 record in his second NFL season. He broke the rushing record for QBs and led the NFL in passing touchdowns.

Runner-Up: Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

RB of the Year: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Carolina Panthers

McCaffrey did it all for the Panthers and he compiled 1,387 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. He also added 1,005 yards and 4 touchdowns in receiving.

Runner-Up: Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles Rams

WR of the Year: Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints

Runner-Up: Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Houston Texans

TE of the Year: Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs

This award could go to Kelce or George Kittle and no one could argue it. Kelce finished 4th in the NFL in receiving yards and was a huge part to the Chiefs success.

Runner-Up: George Kittle, TE, San Francisco 49ers

OL of the Year: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Baltimore Ravens

Stanley made life easy for 2nd year QB Lamar Jackson as he completely dominated opponents all season long giving up 0 sacks.

Runner-Up: Ryan Ramczyk, OT, New Orleans Saints

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: David Bakhtiari, OT, Green Bay Packers

EDGE of the Year: Chandler Jones, EDGE, Arizona Cardinals

Jones was an absolute force coming off the edge for Arizona, finishing the season with 19 sacks.

Runner-Up: Shaquil Barrett, EDGE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • 2018: Khalil Mack, DE, Chicago Bears

DT of the Year: Aaron Donald, DT, Los Angeles Rams

Donald did not produce similar stats compared to previous seasons but still finished the season with 12.5 sacks.

LB of the Year: Bobby Wagner, LB, Seattle Seahawks

Wagner continued to be the heart and soul of a young Seattle defense. He was a dominant player in both the rush and pass games.

Runner-Up: Darius Leonard, LB, Indianapolis Colts

CB of the Year: Stephon Gilmore, CB, New England Patriots

Runner-Up: Tre’Davious White, CB, Buffalo Bills

S of the Year: Minkah Fitzpatrick, S, Pittsburgh Steelers

Fitzpatrick completed altered the Pittsburgh defense following a trade from the Miami Dolphins, leading the Steelers with 5 interceptions.

Runner-Up: Budda Baker, S, Arizona Cardinals

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Eddie Jackson, S, Chicago Bears

Coach of the Year: John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens

Harbaugh was a big part of the progression of Lamar Jackson in year 2, finishing with the best record in the NFL at 14-2.

Runner-Up: Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Matt Nagy, Chicago Bears

Comeback Player of the Year: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Tennessee Titans

Tannehill simply won games as he dominated throughout the second half of the regular season and being one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL.

Runner-Up: Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco 49ers

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts

Biggest Draft Steal: Terry McLaurin, WR, Washington Redskins

No late round rookie really popped in this class as the best players all came from early in round one. Meanwhile, McLaurin demonstrated some very good route running skills and looks to be one of the better receivers in the league in coming years.

Runner-Up: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, DB, New Orleans Saints

Previous Winners:

  • 2018: Darius Leonard, LB, Indianapolis Colts

*Playoffs MVP: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Mahomes continued his high level of play into the postseason as he completely took over games as Kansas City advanced to the Super Bowl.

Runner Up: Derrick Henry, RB, Tennessee Titans


*Best NFL Season: Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens

This award is different than the NFL MVP, as it shows the player with the best statistical season. Jackson broke many records and led the league in TD passes.

Runner Up: Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints


Best NFL Player: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

There is no doubt that Mahomes is on a different level than anyone in the NFL right now. Since returning from an injury early in the season, he has absolutely dominated the entire NFL at the most important position.

Runner-Up: Michael Thomas, WR, New Orleans Saints
